Perils of Dartmoor

Stephen et al....

A walking friend in England sent me three ordnance maps of Dartmoor and the
Cotswolds.

I see several firing ranges - are these clearly posted, or might one be
blown to bits while obsessively tracking down a letterbox?

I dare say that there are thousands of boxes available on the moors which are not in range of gunfire. Did you aquire a copy of the catalogue as well? I would suggest getting the catalogue and making a color copy of the part of dartmoor you are going to visit. Take the color copy and encase it in a clear plastic sheet protector, and seal up the edges with clear tape. That way your map won't get wet if you are out in the rain.

More info on letterboxes in Dartmoor, lists etc :

http://www.letterboxing.myweb.nl/Dartmoor%20100-club.htm

Firing ranges are usually clearly marked, with signs
indicating dates and times of access together with a flag system
of red/green.
